Search & AI Visibility Audit

A position nobody owns, a catalogue the search engines are told to ignore, and product pages with the descriptions switched off.

Performance and images are not scored. The measurement pass did not complete for this site, so those dimensions are excluded from the score rather than guessed at. Everything above is measured.

The four things to fix first
Product descriptions are switched off
On every product page checked, the description container is commented out of the template. The copy exists. Customers and search engines never see it.
Google keeps only a fifth of the site
Of 1,589 pages Google knows about, just 344 are indexed. Most of the rest were judged not worth keeping, which is a content problem more than a settings one.
Nothing says "not cluster boxes"
The words cluster, CBU and centralised appear nowhere on the site, which is why AI recommends cluster boxes on every neighbourhood question.
The HOA pages have no call to action
The builder and property-manager pages contain roughly 80 words each and no enquiry button in the page at all.
Section 02 · The Load-Bearing Finding

AI recommends a product you do not sell, and nothing on your site says so

Asked how an HOA should replace a neighbourhood's mailboxes, ChatGPT recommends USPS cluster box units from Florence and Salsbury on every project-scale question. Addresses of Distinction sells traditional, one-per-home, post-mounted mailboxes and does not sell cluster boxes at all.

Verified across the siteA full-text search for "cluster", "CBU" and "centralised" across the crawled pages returns zero matches. The distinction that defines this business is stated nowhere a buyer or an AI engine could find it.

This is unusually good news. The competitors winning those answers sell a different product, so they are not really beating this brand. The traditional, matching, post-mounted answer is simply un-owned. No vendor has claimed it, and the same is true of the closely related question of what it costs to replace a whole neighbourhood's mailboxes.

The buyer is addressed but not served
Pages for HOAs, builders and property managers exist, but each carries around 80 words and no process, pricing, proof or enquiry button.
31 real projects, no stories
The site lists 31 named, located community projects as thumbnails with no narrative. That is the exact proof an HOA board needs, and the raw material for the cost guide nobody owns.
The best page is unreadable to machines
The mailbox size guide earns 521 clicks a year, yet zero measurements appear as text. Every dimension lives inside an image.
Section 03 · Technical Foundations

The site is arguing with itself

This is the most serious technical picture of the four brands, and it is largely one problem wearing several hats.

IssueSeverityWhat we found
A very large robots.txt blocking part of the catalogueHighrobots.txt runs to 66KB with 1,049 blocking rules, which is extraordinary for a site this size, and a substantial share of sitemap addresses match one of them. Search Console confirms 157 pages are blocked this way. See Section 06 for what Google actually does with the catalogue, which turns out to be a bigger issue than the blocking itself.
Navigation pages redirect into a locked areaHigh27 of the 92 real navigation pages, including panels, frames, accessories and mailboxes, redirect into a wholesale section that then refuses access.
Product descriptions commented outCriticalVerified on 5 of 5 sampled products: the description container is disabled in the template. On some products the real copy survives only inside machine-readable data, encoded and invisible to shoppers.
388 "categories" are really project pagesMediumThey are one-off community projects such as Tally Green and Wildwood at Meadowgate. Of 30 sampled, 21 hold exactly one product. This is not a taxonomy, and it explains the odd shape of the catalogue.
HTTPS enforcement disabledHighEvery response tells browsers to discard the HTTPS-only policy. Shared by all four sister brands, so fix once at platform level.
Pinch-zoom blockedMediumThe page settings prevent zooming, an accessibility problem on a site where 54% of clicks are mobile.

Encouragingly, a crawl of 1,064 of the 1,123 sitemap addresses found no genuinely broken pages: 1,037 loaded normally and the 27 failures are the wholesale-gate redirects above. Web address handling and security certificates are correct, and the site works without JavaScript.

Section 04 · Organic Search Performance

The decorative neighbourhood-sign line is the top ad-converting category and the one that reaches the HOA buyer. In Google it ranks at the bottom of page one or on page two and captures almost nothing.

Search termImpressionsPositionClick rateReading
community signs8,4948.60.20%The HOA category. Ranking, not earning.
neighborhood signs2,24511.60.58%Same category, page two.
community sign2,2705.70.48%Best position of the three.
mailbox accessories6,31010.70.16%Page two.
gold mailbox numbers2,8425.60.56%Closest to the top of page one.

What does earn clicks is specification content: the mailbox size guide takes 521 clicks from 92,881 impressions, and the standard-size mailbox page 472 from 81,744. That is the pattern to extend to the neighbourhood-sign category, provided the text depth problem is fixed this time.

Read the impression line carefullyMonthly impressions swung from roughly 40,000 in October to 457,858 in February and back to 43,867 in June, while clicks held between 660 and 945 every single month. A tenfold swing with no click movement is a measurement artefact, not a collapse and not a recovery. Judge this account on clicks and leads.
Section 05 · AI Visibility

One citation, and it is the local one

Across thirteen buyer questions put to ChatGPT with web search enabled, Addresses of Distinction was named once: mailbox installation near Atlanta. On national recommendation, project and cost questions it does not appear.

Section 06 · Indexing · Confirmed

Actually indexed
344

Found, never crawled
623
Google chose not to even look at these.
Crawled, then rejected
340
Read and judged not worth keeping.
A correction to our earlier estimateAn earlier draft of this report estimated that around 70% of the catalogue was being blocked by robots.txt. That figure was inferred from the site's own files, not measured. Search Console shows the real number is 157 pages blocked, and none of them are being indexed in spite of it. The inference was wrong and we are correcting it.

The confirmed picture is less tidy than a settings mistake, and more serious. Of the 1,245 pages Google declined, 963, over three quarters, were declined on merit rather than blocked: 623 were discovered and never even crawled, and 340 were crawled and then rejected.

That is Google saying, in its own data, that most of this catalogue does not justify the effort. It fits everything else in this report: the 388 one-off community project pages that each hold a single product, the product descriptions commented out of the template, and the roughly 80-word service pages. Fixing robots.txt alone would not move this. The pages have to be worth keeping.

There is a bright spot in the trend. Pages Google declined fell from 1,507 in May to 1,245 in July while indexed pages rose from 323 to 344, so the direction is right even though the absolute level is poor.

Section 07 · What To Do

Sequenced by return on effort

This week
  1. Switch the product descriptions back on. One template change restores copy across the whole catalogue. Nothing else in this report is cheaper or larger.
  2. Fix the 27 navigation pages that redirect into a locked wholesale area.
  3. Turn HTTPS enforcement back on and allow pinch-zoom.
Weeks two and three
  1. Write the page nobody owns: traditional, non-cluster mailboxes for HOA neighbourhoods. State plainly that you do not sell cluster boxes and why a matching post-mounted scheme suits a neighbourhood. This is the un-owned position, in both Google and AI.
  2. Build the cost guide for replacing a neighbourhood's mailboxes, using the 31 real projects you already have as evidence.
  3. Rebuild the HOA, builder and property-manager pages from 80-word shells into real service pages, each with an enquiry form. There is currently no button to click.
  4. Put the size-guide measurements into text so both shoppers and AI engines can read them.
  5. Deal with the 963 pages Google declined on merit. 623 were found and never crawled, 340 were crawled and rejected. Consolidate the 388 one-off community project pages, most of which hold a single product, into a smaller number of substantial pages. This, not robots.txt, is what is keeping the site at 22% indexed.
  6. Then review the 66KB robots.txt. 1,049 blocking rules is extraordinary for a site this size, though Search Console shows it accounts for only 157 blocked pages, a much smaller problem than the point above. Prune it deliberately once the content work is underway.
Month two
  1. Add business and local-business identity markup to defend the Atlanta position you already hold.
  2. Give the 31 case studies a paragraph each and link them from the HOA pages as proof.
  3. Pursue the neighbourhood-signs roundup placement and claim the directory listing.
  4. Re-measure in 30 days on branded clicks, lead volume and citation rate, ignoring the impression line.
